Police Charge Pittsburgh Area Man After Shots Fired Incident in Smethport Overnight

In the early morning hours of August 28, 2020, Smethport Borough Police were dispatched to a report of an attempted shooting on West Main Street in Smethport. An employee of the Corner Bistro reported that a customer who had been asked to leave the establishment due to theft returned in a vehicle and fired two shots from a firearm, in the direction where she was standing outside near the building. There were other people inside the building.

An officer with Port Allegany Police Department was asked to assist in the search of the suspect and the officers from both jurisdiction canvassed the vicinity.

The front of the building that previously housed Allegany Eye Care was damaged as was a tree between the American Legion and the Route 6 diner.

Pieces of head lights and a tail light remained.

The suspect was found highly intoxicated near Hamlin Lake park and two firearms were retrieved.

The suspect has been identified as Brian J. Borrasso of Allegheny County.

BORRASSO was initially evaluated at Bradford Regional Medical Center where officers with the Bradford City Police continued the investigation to assist Smethport Borough.

The Suspect was transferred to an out of state trauma center for injuries sustained in the crash.

The Chief County Detective from the District Attorney�s Office was called to assist in the investigation.

BORRASSO has been charged with numerous crimes including Aggravated Assault; Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Structure, Criminal Mischief; Recklessly Endangering Another Person; Theft; DUI.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest and additional charges are possible.

I would like to thank the officers and departments that assisted in this situation as several different departments responded � Officer Kevin Seipp, Chief Pat Warnick, Officer Tony Tanner, Chief County Detective Ryan Yingling, Officer Shane Miller, Chief Michael Ward, Trooper Robert Fay, Trooper Alex Wissman, Dave Mallison and Timothy Crandall with Priority Care, and 911 Dispatchers. The seriousness nature of the call required a great effort and officers with the various departments stepped in to ensure the safety of the public.
